Last night I attended a dinner with the Active Republican Women of Las Vegas, where Congressman Jon Porter was the keynote speaker. This wasn’t one of those stuffy fundraiser dinners, it was simply a dinner of the club, and he agreed to come and speak. Never been to any of their functions and was just checking things out. I have to say, though, I was very impressed. I had a lovely dinner and great conversation with several ladies. I sat next to one of our family court judges, Hon. Dianne Steel. I also met several people running for various local offices, including many judicial positions. I was right next to Congressman Porter’s table and was able to shake his hand and talk to him. He made some fantastic points as he spoke to us and was a pretty entertaining speaker. All-in-all, it was a wonderful evening!
Growing up, my dad worked for Farmers Insurance, as an agent. Jon Porter was a district manager over several agents, my dad being one of them. I remember my dad always saying really good things about him, and it left a lasting impression on me. The Congressman seemed to be just as nice as ever and remembered my dad and asked about him. I really think that aside from being an on my side in Congress, he’s just a very decent and good man.
