It’s been a while since I’ve posted, and that’s for a couple reasons. The first, I’ve been really super busy. Second, sometimes words seem inadequate to express my thoughts on certain things, generally politically. But, there are just way too many things going on that I’d like to comment on, so I’m going to touch on them today.

First, what seems to have become a big story: Sarah Palin vs. David Letterman. I find it ridiculous that Letterman would joke about a 14year old (and yes, it was the 14 year old daughter not the 19 year old) girl being sexually assaulted. I find it ridiculous that Letterman would joke and call Gov. Palin “slutty.” On this, I have two questions. 1. What would have been the repercussions if a conservative comedian made those kind of jokes about liberals, say Hillary and Chelsea Clinton, or the Obamas? There would have been extreme outrage. (And let me just say the jokes were distasteful, and I would think the same regardless of who the jokes were about.) However, because the jokes were about conservative Governor Sarah Palin and her family, there are just excuses being made, none of which I buy, by the way. It is absurd the extreme double standard that exists in mainstream media. Of course that is nothing new, but it’s still irritating. 2. What would Dave say if someone made jokes like that about his child or wife?

Second, the elections in Iran. Initially, I favored the defeat of Ahmadinejad because I thought the contender, Mousavi, would be better on international issues. However, I don’t think there would be much difference between the two as far a international policy. However, I still think Mousavi would be great for the country because he supports more freedoms for the people of Iran, and he has a great deal of support from the citizens in Iran. And, personally, I think any steps toward freedom are good, and in a country like that, they will be small steps. Now, this morning, it’s coming out that Ahmadinejad has been declared the winner of the election. The results are highly contested and controversial. This was supposed to be a very close race, and it seems astounding that he would loose by such a huge margin, let alone in his own home town. People have taken to the streets in protest, and frankly, that’s a great thing to see in a country so tightly ruled. The Interior Ministry of the country has blocked communications, including text messaging, and pulled newspapers from the stands. So, we actually know more here, than the people in Iran do. Something is foul about all this, to be sure.

What next? Ah, yes, North Korea. First of all, I think we can all agree that Kim Jong-Il is completely crazy. The idea of this guy being in charge of weapons, let alone nuclear weapons, is terrifying! So, this week the United Nations approved all kinds of sanctions against North Korea. (Oh no, not the UN! Now, that’s scary! (Please note the sarcasm.)) Now, to be fair, countries are vowing to uphold and enforce the sanctions, including China. And, in an “I spit in your general direction” move, North Korea has responded as any crazy infantile country would, and said that they will continue to enrich plutonium for weapons, and oh yeah, “Na nee na nee boo boo!” They have also said that they will take military action in order to do so. On a completely serious note, my brother-in-law is serving a mission in South Korea, and this whole thing really makes me nervous.

Now, on to the homefront. What can I say? I think I must be living in the Twilight Zone! What the heck is happening to my wonderful country? Obama and the liberal Congress have moved much faster than I thought they would. It is ridiculous some of the things that are going on! In 5 months, he has nationalized 4 big industries. I only wonder what is next. They sold this “stimulus” as something that was absolutely necessary for the economy or the economy would collapse. There were doomsday predictions falling out of the sky. Personally, I never bought any of it. It moved through WAY too fast, and they were clearly not being honest (not that I would have expected them to be). And, let’s look at the results of this “economy saving” that has been done. Many banks took TARP money, and yet still won’t loan to people. The auto makers got a bailout, and still declared bankruptcy. Unemployment wasn’t supposed to go higher than 7 percent, and it’s much higher than that nationally, and even higher in some states. Wow, great plan! “Oh, but it would have been so much worse had we not done anything!” say government officials. Yeah, and if you believe that I’ve got some ocean front property in Arizona to sell you. Here’s the thing. The free market works! Trick is, it has to be allowed to. The government has gotten way too involved in the free market system, thus rendering it not a free market. Then they declare that the free market isn’t working and has failed us. NO! That’s simply not the case. The government has failed us, by causing the fall of the free market system. See, with true capitalism and free markets, things fix themselves! So, all we have to do is allow them to do so. I know, crazy idea, huh? Let things work how they are supposed to. Capitalism, real capitalism, ALWAYS works! If the government will just stay out of people’s business it would work. I could go on and on about the horrible damage Obama’s policies are doing to the economy, but it would just aggravate me. (And allow me to interject for a moment here, but what the heck is wrong with the Republicans? We should be running ads like crazy talking about all the lies that have been told about all this stimulus stuff, especially in states with super high unemployment and in 2010 battleground states! We need to start making the connections now! We can’t wait, especially here in Nevada where Harry Reid will be up for re-election. We’ve got to tie him to this stuff starting now! Where is the leadership here? We’ve got to wake up!)

And, I don’t really want to go too much into government run health care, but I have a couple things to say on it. First, I don’t care what they call it; it’s SOCIALIZED medicine! Second, it’s a terrible idea! Sure, it sounds great to say that everyone will have health care, who wouldn’t want that? However, that’s not the reality of the situation. Just look at countries that have socialized medicine. People get horrible care! That’s why many of them come here to get treatment, if they can. In those countries, there are often medications that are not available to people. They also deny a lot of care for the elderly. In Great Britain, women can’t get breast cancer medication. The simple and brutal truth is that for these bankrupt government run systems, it’s just cheaper to let someone die, than to treat them, even when it’s something as treatable as breast cancer. Most sane people can look at the facts and see that any kind of socialized medicine would be disastrous! A quick personal example is a friend of mine that has a ridiculous amount of health problems, including Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Because of the Lupus, her immune system is very weak, and she is prone to illness. Now, of course most things can be treated at home, but there are times when she has to see a doctor or even go to the hospital. Oh, yeah, she has NO health insurance because her husband has been unemployed for a year. She can even see the horrors that would be socialized medicine, and doesn’t want it. At least now, if she needs to see her doctor or go to the emergency room she can do so. While it is a sacrifice for them to pay out of pocket for the visits, they do so in order to get the care she needs. They are willing to do so, in order to get quality care. If we were to go to socialized medicine, yes, she would be covered, but what would that mean? She could sit on a waiting list for a year and a half to see a specialist? She could see a doctor, but not one of her choosing. And, she wouldn’t get any quality health care. Fact is, when you take out the incentive for doctors to do really well, they won’t. You won’t get quality people in the system. Competition (capitalism) is vital for quality. I don’t want that kind of health care (or lack thereof), and I don’t know anyone in their right mind who would!

Onelast thing. What happened at the Holocaust Museum this week was horrific! The act was committed by someone who was clearly deranged! What a horrible thing for the media to take that tragic event and politicize it! They are making this guy out to be a right-wing crazy conservative. NOT TRUE! They are then drawing ties from him to people like me who are peaceful, law abiding, non-racist conservatives. I’m pretty tired of being labeled extreme and racist and bigoted because I am a conservative. The only thing extreme about me is that I love my country and my family extremely! I’m not a racist. I’m not a bigot. I’m not an extremist or a crazy whack-job! I’m just someone that loves my country and wants to see the values that our founding fathers established preserved for my children. I don’t like taxes, but realize that some are necessary, for example to create roads for me to drive on, but they shouldn’t be so darn high as to fund ridiculous programs that don’t work. I don’t think people should have the right to kill their babies because its convenient (ie: abortion), and I don’t believe in gay marriage. That doesn’t make me a bigot or hateful; it just means that I believe in traditional family values. (And, oh no, watch out for this: I think families run better when the mom can be at home raising the children while the dad works! And I think that’s the ideal situation. Of course there are times when that’s not possible, but it is ideal.) To sum it up, “The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity.” None of that makes me an extremest and I’m pretty darn tired of being labeled such!

Alright, I think that covers it for now.

House Republicans are not taking this lightly, however. They are finally showing some guts and standing up to the Democrats for what is right and good for America! Today was day 3 of the House Republican Revolt. They are asking simply for an up or down vote on offshore drilling. Nancy Pelosi won’t allow it. She was grilled on George Stephanopoulos’ show “This Week” about it, and had no reason for denying the vote, except that she didn’t agree with offshore drilling. Stephanopoulos really pressed her on this over and over, and you could tell that she was truly flustered and didn’t know what to do or say. Stephanopoulos pointed out that when the Democrats took control of Congress she promised an “open, full and fair debate” on all issues. Later in the interview he asked:

Stephanopoulos: “If [Republicans] want to offer a drilling proposal, why can’t they have a vote?“

Pelosi: “They, they, they, they’ll have to use their imaginations as to how they can get a vote.”

That doesn’t sound like “open, full and fair debate” to me.

So, House Republicans are taking a stand. Here’s a video someone shot from inside the House yesterday. It’s a bit choppy, but still good to see.

Now, I believe this is a very important issue. We should be energy independent. We should be able to sustain our own needs for oil. And, we can! If we would just start drilling. I see drilling as win-win-win situation. Lots of jobs would be created. Gas prices would fall immediately (it’s simple economics). We wouldn’t be dependent on other nations. Technology has come a long, long way, and drilling is really, really safe. It’s a great scenario.

So, a huge thank you and great job goes out to all those House Republicans taking a stand to do what is right!

I will continue to post updates and new information on this, because I think it is truly important!

Please visit House Republican Leader, John Boehner’s blog about all this. Lots of good info!

With all the plans Obama has for new government programs, entitlement programs have been under a microscope lately. I believe this is a good thing. The folks at the Heritage Foundation have written a great article about the costs of these programs. It is completely out of control. Now, Obama and his liberal friends want to add more. To many Americans, the promises that they are making sound great. But one of the problems with all of these programs (and there are many programs and many problems) is that people don’t look at what it will really cost them. Here’s a great graphic that illustrates this beautifully. (Click to enlarge.)

We must start cutting entitlement programs. (And no, we shouldn’t just abandon the people that are on Social Security.) We simply cannot allow more government entitlement spending.

I’ve been promising a friend of mine for a while now that I would post something about this, so I’m finally getting to it.

Let me start with some background. Earlier this year, Senator Harry Reid (in all his glory), stuck his foot in his mouth once again, when he blamed President Bush for not having enough bathrooms for tourists in the Capitol Building. He said that the congressmen always joke that they know when it is tourist season because of the smell (yes, saying that the tourists stink). Apparently the toursts congregate in the building while waiting for bathrooms, and all the people in there cause an unpleasant smell. So, he then blamed President Bush for not having enough bathrooms for all the tourists, and essentially saying that it was President Bush’s fault for the tourists being stinky. Now, as one of our great local radio talk show hosts, Casey Hendrickson, pointed out, the President isn’t even allowed at the Capitol (that whole separation of powers thing). And since Congress is the body that does all the fund appropriating, why do they not appropriate themselves some more bathrooms?

So, anyway, this got me thinking about all the different things President Bush has been blamed for. A few of my favorites include:

Tourists stinking. (See above)

It was Bush’s fault when all that spinach was making people sick with e.coli. (If he would have had better or more agriculture inspectors, that wouldn’t have happened.)

Global warming. (If he had signed the Kyoto Protocol…)

Hurricane Katrina. (Global warming caused Hurricane Katrina. See above)

The list could go on and on. Anyway, in thinking about all this, I realized that the Left in this country is giving President Bush all kinds of power, by blaming him for this. I mean, just looking at my short little list, here’s what the President can do: make people stink, make people sick, warm up the earth, cause hurricanes. I mean, what kind of power is that? And here I was thinking he was just a man, but according to all the liberals, he must be really really powerful. Dare I say, even magical! He must have extraordinary abilities! I mean, this is the only thing that could explain it. And, since everyone knows Dick Chaney is really controlling Bush, he must be even more powerful! Maybe they are some sort of wizards or something, and they spend their time together ploting and scheming.

Of course any reasonable person knows that these things are not Bush’s fault; he just happened to be President at the time these things occurred. But, sometimes it’s fun to try to figure out what the liberals could possibly be thinking. It’s the only explanation that makes since with their line of thinking.

But, wait, I thought Al Gore’s Nobel Prize proved it was all true! I said earlier, his Inconvenient Truth was a Convenient Lie! Turns out the predictions were wrong. What a farce this all was, and now it’s finally coming to light! I mean there have been so many times it has been discounted, but now, I guess it’s official! I, for one, couldn’t be happier! But, you know what’s coming, don’t you? It’s the new ice age…now it will be global cooling! Oh no! The hysteria! It happened before. Brace yourself, you know it’s coming.
I wish they’d make up their minds, already! I guess they just need something to nag us about and to regulate. I wonder what it will be next year?

Well, the Clark County Republican Convention was today. Wow. It was kind of nuts, but very good. Over 3000 delegates there, and pretty well organized. It was somewhat stressful at times, as I felt people were being ridiculous and wasting time, but for the most part, it was good. We had several good speakers, Gov. Jim Gibbons, Congressman Dean Heller, Senator John Ensign, and also a video message from Congressman Jon Porter. That was all pretty cool. I was bugged, however, that there was no Presidential straw poll taken. I was so excited, because I was going to vote for Ron Paul, to show my dislike of John McCain. But, alas, it was not meant to be. The biggest problem we had was trying to agree on a platform. I think most people agreed on most of the items, just a handful that raised eyebrows and caused a long debate. In the end, we had to vote for the platform as a whole, instead of item by item, so I ended up voting against it. I have yet to see the results of the voting, but they should be available soon. There were just some things that I couldn’t vote for. Luckily, there will be another meeting in a couple weeks to address the platform.
All the debate on the platform issues really brought to light for me the plight of the Republican party. We are so used to worrying about what everyone else thinks of us, that we don’t bother to stand up for our real values. This is absurd. We had some people saying that if we took all the pro-life references out, that it would be much more appealing to democrats so that they would vote for John McCain. Are you kidding me?! These people want to change the party to conform to the liberals, and that is just ridiculous! We had others who wanted to take out the fact that the best and ideal environment for children to be raised in is a happy two-parent home. Some wanted to take out support for a federal marriage amendment. I just don’t understand this. What has happened to my party? This is not the party of Ronald Reagan anymore. Reagan believed in strong families. Now, I see this party trying to attack the family just like the liberals do. It truly disturbs me. I heard people in there today that seemed to be against capitalism, at least to some degree. I heard people that were upset that a prayer was said at the beginning of the meeting. Frankly, I heard people that I would liken unto FDR democrats. The liberals and moderates are running the party, and running it into the ground. What ever happened to strong conservative values? We need to stop catering to those not even in our party and get back to core party values: strong families, strong economy, strong military. We need to get back to the Contract With America.
I really see things sliding in a way that scares me. I’m truly worried about the future for my children and grandchildren. What kind of world am I giving them? This is why I’ve decided to do everything I can at a local level to see to it that strong, solid conservatives get elected to local and state offices, and to the House and Senate. The White House is lost this election, no matter who wins. So, we’ve got to get strong people into other offices, so real change can begin. Conservatives have got to take back the Republican party!

In response to comments left on this posting:
Folks, believe me, I’m going to do everything I can to be at that meeting on the 18th. I believe so strongly that we must take back the Republican party from the left and from the media. The liberal media selected our presidential nominee, pure and simple. We’ve been so worried about offending someone on the left for so long that we’ve lost our way. I feel it is imperative that we get back to our conservative values. Real conservative values. The thought of a world run by liberals (even liberal republicans) makes me cringe and shudder and want to cry for my children. I just must do everything I can to protect our future. I love this country! I want to preserve those values that make this THE best country in the world.

I’m really fuming. What the heck is going on with the GOP? I just can’t believe people are falling for this stuff!
I’m just going to post a link to my friend Mike’s blog entry about tonight’s results in Florida.
Check out his entry and my comments on it. Pretty much sums it up. I’m sure I’ll have more to say on the subject, but I first need to calm down. UGGGGHHHHH!

I have two predictions to make, in light of recent events.
1. I think that if all the liberals get what they want, and more and more people start driving hybrid vehicles, in order to live “green,” it will backfire on them. Soon, they will realize that the government is not collecting as much revenue in taxes from gas. (After all, the gov’t gets like $.50 a gallon, while “big oil” is only getting around $.08 per gallon.) So, they will be loosing a ton of money, and yup, you guessed it, raise our taxes even more. People think gas prices are high now. Just wait until the libs realize how much they are loosing out on at the pump.

2. I think that if this horrible immigration bill goes through, and all these people become “legal,” it will become a terrible burden for employers. Right now they can get away with paying the illegals less money because they are willing to work for less. But, I predict that when they become legal, they will demand more money. They will become subject to minimum wage laws, too. While some are saying that this bill would be good for businesses, I think it is going to end up costing them more.
