Literally, like 5 minutes after I finished my last post, Leia had her first puppy!  She has since had all six!  Yup, six pups!  They are just adorable and precious.  And, mom and babies seem to be doing well.  She had 3 boys and 3 girls; 2 brown/red and 4 black.  Here’s some cute pictures!  8 Jun 2008     8 Jun 2008

It’s been a while since I posted.  It’s not that I don’t have anything to say; I’ve just been very busy.  Of course, I have some commentary on recent political activity, but that will wait for another time.

So, one of our dogs, Leia, is pregnant, ready to pop at any moment.  She’s going to be a great mom; definitely has the disposition for it.  So, we’ve been on labor watch for the last several days.  I took her into the vet on Thursday, and they did an x-ray to make sure everything was ok.  Everything looked good, and to my utter surprise, she has six little pups inside her belly!  WOW!  I seriously thought there were two or three.  We haven’t told the kids how many, just in case they don’t all make it.  But, I have had them guessing.  So far, Gavin and Genevie both said seven, Logan guessed four then changed it to six, and Daphne says two.  It’s been fun to watch them be so excited.  I think I’ve been more anxious about this than Leia has.  I keep thinking she’s going to have the babies, but then she doesn’t.  She’s showing all the signs.  But, the vet said today that she could start doing that up to 72 hours ahead of time.  Hopefully, though, it will be soon, and everything will go well.

Also, I’ve been covering my front yard with rocks, since we just couldn’t keep the grass alive.  Well, I decided yesterday that I probably wasn’t going to be able to work on it much after the pups are born.  So, I called two of my friends and they came over and we pretty much finished it.  Hooray!  Now, we don’t look like our house is going into foreclosure.  It is really plain right now, but it looks much better.  I think we’ll add some more plants and color once the temperature goes down again.  I have to say, I’m truly grateful for such wonderful friends!

A lot has been happening the last week or so. First of all, to address my last post: that horrible immigration bill was defeated! (At least for now.) Hooray!! I’m so glad. Now we shouldn’t see a revisit of that until 2008, so we’ve got a little bit of time anyway.
Next, on Monday night, our sweet little baby puppy died. He just stopped breathing. Adam tried CPR and mouth to mouth to get him breathing again, but it just wasn’t meant to be. We buried him in the backyard Tuesday morning. We were all upset about it, but I think I took it the hardest. I’m feeling better now, but I really miss him.
Here he is with Adam, just 2 days old.

Ok, what else? Saturday, we started laying the new flooring in our house. I’m so excited about it! It looks great! I am so very grateful to our wonderful friends who came to help us! It took 7 hours on Saturday just to do the one room. I’ll have to find some way to repay them all! Then, Tuesday, my dad and Adam got another room done, which took about 4 hours. So now, I think we are about half way done. Oh, I will be so excited when it’s all done.
So, yesterday was Independence Day. I love this holiday! It’s so wonderful to celebrate our nation and the freedoms we all enjoy. I think we often take for granted what we have been so blessed with. There is no better country on the face of this earth. There is no other country where the people are free in thought, religion, work, school, where they live, everything. It is amazing. I know that the Lord had a hand in establishing this nation, and that the founding fathers were truly inspired by Him. It is remarkable to be here, and I wish more people would realize that.

It’s been a while…

Wow, I think this is the longest I’ve gone without a new post. Things have been totally crazy and I just haven’t been able to get on. Brief update: Our dog, Chewy, went into labor two weeks ago, on the 10th. We thought she was just in the early stages of the labor, which we read could last a day or two. On Monday, she looked like she was getting ready to have the babies, and we were sure she would have them Monday night. However, when we woke up on Tuesday morning, there were still no pups, and we couldn’t feel them move. We took here into the vet, where they took an x-ray and found that she had 3 pups, but it looked like they were all dead. They preformed a c-section on her (and spayed her in the process), and to everyone’s surprise, one of the puppies survived! We were very excited about that. So, Chewy and the puppy came home that afternoon, and Chewy was completely out of it. Adam nursed the puppy and kept him alive. Adam had to stay home from work the rest of that week, because the pup required full time attention. He was so great with Chewy and the puppy! We also had to take Chewy back to the vet everyday for almost a week. She wasn’t doing well, and got a full body infection. Then she licked her stitches open, so now she has a cone on her head, which she really doesn’t like. The puppy is doing really well. Chewy pretty much abandoned him; I don’t think she even knows he’s her puppy. So, we are on round-the-clock puppy care. We have puppy formula and a syringe we use to feed him. He’s so tiny and cute! He’s grown a ton, though since he was born. Chewy gets her stitchs out and cone off on Wednesday, so hopefully she’ll be all back to normal then.
So, needless to say, it’s been very time consuming doing all of this.

The right picture is of Chewy and puppy Han Solo on the day they came he was born. The left is a picture of puppy Solo in Adam’s hand when he was just a few days old.

Pups on the way

One of our little wiener dogs, Chewy, is pregnant. It came somewhat as a surprise to us, because the dad is so much bigger than her. We are going to be taking her to the vet Saturday, so we’ll see what he says. Right now, though, we are thinking that she’s probably going to need a c-section. But, we’ll do whatever we need to. I bet the pups will be so cute!

Finally, a name for the pup

So, after much debate and trial, we have finally named our new little puppy! Luke (from Star Wars). OK, I know it’s not all exciting, but it was a long process to get this far. The name seems to fit him. So, now we have Luke, Chewy, Leia, and Mace – our 4 crazy wiener dogs!

Here, Luke is sleeping on Chewy. They’re so cute!

The poor baby puppy

Back in January, I told you that we got a new puppy. It’s been almost a month now, and our poor little puppy still has no name. With our other pups, we have a Star Wars theme going on. We’ve got Mace, Leia, and Chewy. But this one has been hard to name. Nothing seems to fit him. We’ve tried Vader, Worf (from Star Trek: TNG), and a few others, but nothing has worked so far. We’ve got to come up with something soon, or he’s just going to be called Baby Puppy. My latest suggestion is R2, but we’re not sure how Adam feels about it yet.

A new addition

Tonight we added another member to our family (no, not another child). We got another mini dachshund puppy! He’s very cute! Now we have a little boyfriend for Chewy. So, just so it’s clear, we now have: 4 dogs, 4 kids, 1 mom, 1 dad, (and a partridge in a pear tree)! It’s great!
